Small Mouth Bass

Small Mouth Bass Restoration

The Beaver Archipelago has a long history as one of the best Small Mouth Bass fisheries in the world.  In the last decade the bass population has declined due to overfishing and the rapid expansion of the Double Crested Cormorant. The BICC will push for the DNR to adopt catch and release artificial bait only regulations for small mouth bass within waters 3 miles or closer to shore within the Beaver Archipelago.  As the Small Mouth Bass population rebounds and Cormorant predation is controlled the Archipelago should be evaluated for a less restrictive slot limit designed to protect breeding age and trophy caliber Small Mouth Bass.
